As part of the Atlantic Growth Strategy, the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) was created to address labor shortages in the Canadian Atlantic provinces: New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Continue reading to learn more about the AIP.
Originally launched in 2017, the AIP has since welcomed over 10,000 new permanent residents to Atlantic Canada, which includes the four provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island.
Following the success of its initial phase, the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program was made permanent on December 17, 2021, and subsequently renamed the Atlantic Immigration Program. The permanent version of the program officially began on January 1, 2022.
The Atlantic Immigration Program enables employers in Atlantic Canada to hire foreign workers to fill job vacancies. It also provides a pathway for immigrants to apply for permanent residence in these provinces.
To be able to apply under the AIP, you must :
- Intend settling in Atlantic Canada,
- Have recently completed graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada, or
- Be a skilled worker.
